How to Make the Most of Design Central North West 2026

When you’re taking time away from current projects, client meetings and everything else competing for space in your diary, you want that time to be worthwhile.
A trade show can give you access to an enormous amount in one place. New suppliers, products you need to see and touch before specifying, conversations that answer questions far more quickly than an email chain ever could, and ideas you perhaps weren’t looking for at all.
But the difference between simply attending a show and getting real value from it really comes down to how you approach it.
With Design Central North West 2026 returning to Capesthorne Hall on 22nd and 23rd September, here are a few ways to make your time with us count.
Start with the projects already on your desk
You don’t need to arrive with a minute by minute plan, but it helps to think about what you’re currently working on before you walk through the doors.
Perhaps you’re struggling to find the right fabric for a particular scheme. You need to compare flooring finishes in person. You’re looking for lighting for an upcoming project, or you simply need some fresh inspiration to turn to.
Make a note of those priorities.
One of the biggest advantages of bringing so many suppliers together in one place is the opportunity to move between brands, compare options and ask questions there and then.
A little preparation can turn into an incredibly productive sourcing trip.

Bring your projects with you
Not literally, of course! But bring photographs, measurements, floor plans, mood boards, colour references and notes that can make conversations with suppliers far more useful.
If there’s something specific you’re trying to solve, show them.
The people exhibiting at Design Central know their products inside out. Giving them some context around your project can lead to suggestions you might not have considered from looking through a website or sample book alone.
It also means you can leave with useful answers rather than a list of things you need to investigate when you get back to the studio.

Make a point of meeting someone new
There will always be brands you know you want to visit, and catching up with existing suppliers is an important part of the day. But leave room for discovery too.
Some of the most useful finds at a trade event are the ones you didn’t know you were looking for.
Take a different route around the show. Stop when something catches your eye. Ask a supplier you haven’t worked with before about what they do.
You may discover a new contact for a future project, an alternative solution to something you specify regularly or simply a product that stays in the back of your mind until exactly the right project comes along.

See the things a screen can’t show you
We source so much online now that it’s easy to forget how much information is missing from a photograph.
Scale, weight, texture, movement, true colour, the way a material responds to light, the quality of a finish.
These details matter when you’re specifying for a client.
Design Central gives you the opportunity to handle materials, compare finishes and see products properly before making decisions.
If you’ve been considering a particular product or supplier online, use the show as your opportunity to take a closer look or even a first look as the show will feature new Autumn Winter collections throughout.

Use Talk Space for what matters to you
This year, the conversations at Design Central go beyond products and sourcing.
Our evolving Talk Space programme and collaboration with Larsen Architecture bring more business focused learning into the show, alongside wider conversations around the industry and the future of design.
We’ve just added another conversation to the programme. On Wednesday 23rd September, architect & interior designer Ryan Wenham will be joined by Patrick Grant to explore The Future of Design. Patrick is an outspoken advocate for radical change in the fashion and clothing industry, championing a move beyond sustainable to circular and regenerative.
You don’t necessarily need to attend everything but look at the programme and choose the conversations that feel most relevant to where you are right now. That could be a challenge within your business, something you want to understand better or simply a subject that has been on your mind.
And as we’re a two day show, you have plenty of opportunity to attend as many sessions as you wish.
Make time for conversation
It sounds obvious, but making time for conversation can easily get lost in the rush of a busy show.
Design Central has always been about more than products. It’s about bringing the design community together.
Talk to suppliers behind their collections. Ask questions. Speak to the designer standing next to you looking at the same sample. Join a conversation after a Talk Space session. You never quite know where those exchanges might lead!
It could be a new supplier relationship, a recommendation, an introduction, a different perspective on a problem or simply a good conversation with somebody who understands the realities of working in the same industry.

Give yourself time to take it in
There is no prize for getting around the show fastest, so give yourself permission to pause.
Sit down, have a coffee, go back to something you want another look at. Spend longer talking to a supplier when the conversation is useful.
We’ve always wanted Design Central to feel different from the kind of typical trade event where you rush from stand to stand before leaving exhausted with a bag full of brochures you never look at again.
So take your time. Follow what catches your attention, enjoy the conversations and give yourself the space to properly take it all in. Sometimes, that’s when the best discoveries happen.

And when you get back to the studio...
The most useful part of a trade show often happens afterwards.
Before the notes, photographs and conversations disappear beneath everything waiting for you back at your desk, take a little time to go through them.
Request the samples you wanted. Follow up with the supplier you had a great conversation with. Save the contact details you know you’ll need again. Add that interesting new brand to your sourcing library.
Perhaps make notes of the ideas from the day that you genuinely want to act on.
Because the value of attending Design Central isn’t just what you see while you’re there. It’s what you take back to your projects, your clients and your business afterwards.
